Charles and Luna Scutter had a steep backyard that was practically unusable. Dirt constantly washed down toward their home, and the slope made it impossible to enjoy outdoor living. They dreamed of a safe, level space where they could relax or entertain.
The Problem
The sloped yard was not only unattractive—it was a hazard. Rain caused soil erosion, and there was no stable surface for any kind of use. The couple needed both a structural and aesthetic solution to reclaim their yard.
The Solution
We excavated the hillside, built a reinforced retaining wall to hold the slope in place, and poured a large concrete patio to create a clean, functional outdoor space. The new layout adds value, safety, and curb appeal to their home.

Behind the Build: Step-by-Step Retaining Wall & Patio Installation
1. Slope Evaluation Begins
Charles reviews the backyard’s steep condition and envisions the potential.
2. Site Layout and Prep
We marked out levels, elevations, and work zones before excavation began.
3. Slope Excavation
Heavy equipment cut into the slope, clearing the area for wall and patio installation.
4. Area Cleared and Framed
The slope was prepped and form boards delivered to frame the new concrete slab.
5. Retaining Wall Base Installation
We laid the first row of interlocking blocks on compacted gravel, forming a stable base.
6. Retaining Wall Progress
The wall stretched across the entire yard, creating a clean boundary and slope retention.
7. Concrete Area Framed
Wood forms were installed around the future patio area to define shape and elevation.
8. Rebar Grid in Place
A steel rebar grid was installed for slab reinforcement and crack prevention.
9. Concrete Pour Underway
Our team poured fresh concrete and began leveling the surface with precision.
10. Trowel Finishing
The slab was smoothed by hand and machine, with careful attention to detail.
11. Freshly Finished Slab
The concrete cured with a clean, modern finish—lined up neatly with the wall.
