Before & After: From Eroding Hill to Beautifully Defined Front Yard
Project Spotlight: Concrete Walkway Installation In San Diego
This follow-up project for Charles and Luna focused on reshaping the side of their backyard. The old patchy grass and narrow access walkway didn’t reflect the updated look of their new backyard patio and retaining wall.
The Problem
The side yard had uneven terrain, poor drainage, and no clear pathway. Water pooling and patchy soil made it messy and hard to use.
The Solution
We cleared and excavated the side area, built forms with elegant curves, reinforced the foundation with rebar, and poured smooth concrete to create a practical and stylish walkway that blends with their home.
What It Added
This new walkway not only looks great but also improves drainage and accessibility—connecting their patio, back door, and garden in one smooth design.
Behind the Build: Step-by-Step Walkway Installation
1. Yard Prep Begins
We removed old grass and planned the new concrete path layout.
2. Breaking Old Concrete
Our team broke and removed old curb material for a fresh start.
3. Layout and Rough Grading
We shaped the curves and defined the path with soil grading and rough outlines.
4. Form Boards Installed
Wood and steel forms were secured in place to define the curved shape.
5. Rebar Grid Laid Out
A rebar mesh was installed for strength and to prevent cracking.
6. Concrete Pouring Day
Concrete was poured carefully into the custom-shaped forms.
7. Smooth Finish Work
The surface was hand-finished for a clean, modern look.
8. The New Walkway – Done
A finished, curved concrete path now connects their side yard beautifully.
