Project Spotlight: Curved Trex Deck for Outdoor Relaxation
Tom wanted a unique sitting area that embraced the natural shape of his yard and created a sunny retreat. The goal was to build a beautiful round deck that fit perfectly with his outdoor layout — offering a space to relax, entertain, and enjoy his San Diego backyard.
The Problem
Tom’s yard was open but lacked structure. He wanted something more inviting and clean without compromising space or landscaping. The area needed better flow and a central point where guests could gather.
The Solution
We poured a custom curved concrete pad and constructed a circular Trex deck over it. The deck was framed precisely to match the round design, with planks laid in a sweeping pattern. The finishing touch? Red wood chairs and a perfect view of the garden.
Behind the Build: Step-by-Step Round Deck Installation
1. Site Clearing & Layout
We marked and prepped the area by removing vegetation, grading the surface, and outlining the circular shape.
2. Rebar & Base Formwork
Rebar grid was laid out, and curved forms were installed to shape the deck’s concrete foundation.
3. Concrete Pouring
We poured and smoothed the circular slab, setting the base for a strong and even deck foundation.
4. Framing Over Concrete
Pressure-treated sleepers and framing elements were installed over the slab to allow for proper drainage and support.
5. Decking Installation Begins
We began placing Trex deck boards, aligning them to follow the curve of the deck and securing them with hidden fasteners.
6. Finishing the Deck Shape
Precision cuts were made along the edges to perfect the curve and clean up the deck perimeter.
7. Detail Work & Edging
Exposed edges were framed and trimmed to match, ensuring the curved aesthetic remained seamless.
8. Project Complete – A Stunning Backyard Getaway
