Alex loved the layout and space of his old raised deck but wanted something fresh, safe, and clean. The wood structure had weathered over time, the boards were worn out, and the original railings no longer fit his vision for a modern home.
The Problem
The old deck was rotting underneath, the wood was outdated, and the safety of the original railing system was questionable. Alex also wanted to keep the swing and maximize use of the underdeck space.
The Solution
We completely demolished the old structure, reinforced the framing, and installed brand new Trex decking in a rich gray tone. Black powder-coated cable railings were added for safety and a sleek look. We finished the underdeck with custom trim and hidden-access panels. New stairs, recessed lighting, and a fresh coat of paint completed the upgrade.
Behind the Build: Step-by-Step Modern Deck Installation
1. Full Deck Demolition Begins
We started by removing all the old boards and support beams to clear the area for a complete rebuild.
2. New Roofing & Framing Adjustments
With the deck open, we reinforced framing and prepped the structure for the new Trex boards and roofline alignment.
3. First Deck Boards Installed
Installation of Trex composite decking began, laid out with clean lines and hidden fasteners for a seamless look.
4. Deck Surface Fully Installed
We continued installing boards to cover the entire deck area, maintaining precise gaps and alignment.
5. Stair Framing & Trim Panels
Custom stair framing and underdeck panel installation took place, including storage access doors.
6. Railing Post & Hardware Setup
Powder-coated black railing posts were positioned and secured to prepare for cable installation.
7. Cable Railings Fully Installed
Tensioned stainless-steel cables were added for both safety and sleek visual appeal.
8. Final Cleanup & Finishing Touches
The deck was cleaned, swing reinstalled, and the space made ready for everyday use.
