Project Spotlight: Backyard Remodel with Custom Deck, Pool Area & Landscaping in San Diego
The Palladino family had a spacious hillside backyard with plenty of potential—but it lacked structure, function, and visual cohesion. They reached out to Classic Home Contractors to turn their blank slate into a vibrant family-friendly retreat, complete with a modern pool area, lush lawn, and stylish elevated deck space.
This project was about transforming uneven terrain into an inviting multi-level oasis—perfect for lounging, entertaining, and enjoying Southern California’s beautiful weather.
The Problem
The existing backyard had a few major limitations:
Sloped, uneven terrain made it hard to use the space efficiently
The pool area was underdeveloped and lacked seating or shade
The fencing and stairs felt disjointed from the rest of the landscape
There was no defined outdoor living area
The Palladinos wanted something elevated—literally and stylistically—while still being safe for kids and comfortable for daily use.
The Solution
We designed and built a complete multi-zone outdoor living area that blends durability, style, and family comfort:
Installed a tiered stone retaining system to support the hillside and define spaces
Built a custom raised deck area with faux-wood porcelain pavers
Added a full stucco perimeter wall with architectural stair details
Installed lush new sod and garden features throughout the yard
Built-in hot tub and pool deck with matching stacked stone veneer
Finished with modern fencing and concrete stepping stones for flow and safety

The Palladino backyard now features beautiful elevation changes that add depth and dimension while preserving open play space and maximizing every inch of the yard.
The new deck is framed by a clean white stucco wall with character-rich stair details on both sides. The stacked stone pool wall brings texture and elegance. Meanwhile, the fresh sod, playful plantings, and concrete stepping stones give the whole space a polished, yet relaxed feel.
This is a true family sanctuary—built with care, creativity, and Classic craftsmanship.
