Project: U-Shaped Kitchen Remodel in San Diego
Client Goals: Improve layout, add countertop space, brighten the entire kitchen
Location: San Diego, CA
Scope: Full kitchen remodel including layout update, cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, flooring

The Problem – Old countertops and tile backsplash

The homeowner needed a full kitchen remodel to update an outdated and inefficient layout. The existing kitchen felt tight, with poorly utilized corners, limited counter space, and a closed-off feeling from the rest of the living area. They wanted a functional, modern kitchen with more prep space, cleaner lines, and better lighting flow — without expanding the footprint.

The Solution – Elegant, open, and functional kitchen with bar seating

We designed and built a custom U-shaped kitchen layout, ideal for maximizing space and creating a natural workflow between the sink, stove, and prep areas. The remodel included:

  • Full demo of existing cabinets and surfaces

  • Clean white shaker cabinetry throughout

  • Quartz countertops and full-height backsplash

  • A seamless waterfall peninsula with bar seating

  • New deep stainless-steel sink and under-cabinet lighting setup

  • Cabinet layout customized for functional storage and appliance zones

This layout offers uninterrupted counters on three sides, plus an open pass-through to the living space, balancing function and flow.

Behind the Build: Step-by-Step U-shaped Kitchen Installation

1. U-Shaped Kitchen Design Plan

We began with a detailed layout and design for the new U-shaped kitchen. The plan included precise cabinet sizes, appliance placements, and an open counter with seating to improve functionality and space flow.

2. Original Kitchen Documentation

We captured the existing kitchen before demolition. Outdated oak cabinetry, older tile countertops, and a closed-off feel made the space feel tight and dated.

3. Full Demolition

We removed all upper and lower cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and appliances. The space was stripped to the drywall to prepare for the rebuild.

4. Wall Opening

We enlarged the pass-through between the kitchen and living space, opening up the room for more light and visual connection. This helped modernize the flow of the entire home.

5. Cabinet Installation

New white shaker-style cabinets were installed according to the new U-shape layout. This included corner cabinets, drawer bases, and sink base with optimized storage.

6. Countertop Fabrication & Prep

We dry-fitted the marble-look quartz countertops and made cutouts for the new undermount sink. Every corner was double-checked for fit and finish before final install.

7. Countertop Install & Detailing

The countertops were secured, sealed, and cleaned. Our team made sure the veining aligned and the surface was ready for use.

8. Final Result – Completed kitchen

We completed the kitchen with under-cabinet lighting, backsplash, new flooring, and appliance installation. The modern white-on-white finish gave the space a fresh, airy feel.

The Finished Kitchen – Open, Bright, and Built for Real Life

This U-shaped kitchen transformation brought more than just modern finishes—it brought breathing room. With clean white cabinetry, durable quartz countertops, and improved lighting, the kitchen now feels open, efficient, and inviting from every angle.

The pass-through wall now connects the kitchen with the living space, and the new layout maximizes prep space while keeping everything within reach.

One small project can change a life.

If you’re working with a closed-off kitchen or a dated layout, we can help open things up.
